The virtual assistant Siri has been part of the iPhone's operating system since 2011, about a year after Apple bought the voice assistant when it was just an app in the App Store. While still not as capable as alternatives like Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant, many people still find it useful to control their phone and get quick answers to questions. If you would rather that your iPhone or iPad wasn't listening for your voice or don't want to give your devices voice commands, it's easy to turn off Siri with a few taps in Settings.

1. Start the Settings app and then tap Siri & Search.
2. Turn off Listen for "Hey Siri" by swiping the button to the left.
3. Turn off Press Side Button for Siri by swiping the button to the left.
4. After you turn off both of these settings, you'll see the Turn Off Siri pop-up. Tap Turn Off Siri.
If you want to turn Siri back on, come back here and enable both of those settings. You'll need to complete a very short setup process by repeating a few Siri commands so your phone learns your voice.
If you find Siri occasionally useful but would like to disable some or all Siri suggestions, you can do that as well. Go to Siri & Search in the Settings app, where you can turn off Siri suggestions only while searching, on the Lock Screen or Home Screen, for example. You can also disable Siri suggestions within certain apps.
