Swedish-Nigerian Singer Frans Takes Over European Radio With 'If I Were Sorry'

At only 17 years of age, Fran Jeppsson Wall is making waves around Europe with his folktronica-inspired single ‘If I Were Sorry’.

Born to a Nigerian father and Swedish mother, Wall recalls loving music ever since he could remember. In fact, he recorded and released a song entitled ‘Fotbollsfest’ in support of Team Sweden for the 2008 UEFA European Football Championship. It reached #1 on the Sweden chart and was eventually certified Gold. At the time – he was only about 9 years old.

8 years later, Wall came in fifth place at the annual Eurovision Song Contest that was held in Sweden this year. Although his song did not end up winning, it still became the most post-successful Eurovision song entry this year! After his live performance, the song climbed up the charts in over 30 countries on iTunes.

So far, the song has been certified quadruple platinum in Sweden for selling units of 160,000. It’s also charted in other European territories such as the U.K. (#61), Austria (#2), Estonia (#12), Finland (#7), Hungary (#20), Germany (#12) and France (#36)! Overall ‘If I Were Sorry’ has charted in over 17 countries.

Despite being released back in February 2016, the song is still sitting comfortable in many iTunes charts, most notably Germany, Estonia, Austria, Poland, Sweden, Denmark, etc. On the worldwide Spotify Rankings List, ‘If I Were Sorry’ is placed at #113 – a swell position, especially considering the fact that the song has only maintained a European radio presence.
